Kenya Travel Guide: What to Do in Kenya

Best Time to Go to Kenya

Travelers heading to Kenya to see wildlife tend to flock there from January through March, which is dry season in the country and a great time to see animals out and about. The wildebeest migration in the Masai Mara National Reserve happens from July through October; this is another very popular time for tourism to Kenya. The weather in Kenya varies depending on which region you’ll be visiting, but, overall, expect lots of rain (and lots of mosquitoes) during the wet season from March through May. Research the weather in the region you’re planning to visit before you make any travel arrangements.

Kenya on a Budget

Safaris tend to be expensive, but there are ways to see African wildlife in Kenyan national parks for less. Look for a self-drive or overland safari and avoid luxury tour operators altogether. You may have to cook your own meals or drive your own car, but you’ll save hundreds over the cost of a luxury safari package. Airfare to Kenya isn’t cheap. Look for prices to drop during the rainy season and to spike around holidays like Christmas and Easter.

Aberdare, Samburu, Masai Mara and Amboseli for animals. The lakes for birds. I would skip Lake Bogoria as it is flooded resulting in fewer birds …” Read more!
