Hungary Travel Guide: What to Do in Hungary

Best Time to Go to Hungary

As in much of Europe, you’ll find Hungary’s warmest weather and the biggest crowds in the summer months, particularly July and August. Travel in spring or fall, and you’ll pay less for airfare and accommodations without sacrificing pleasant weather. Avoid winter, though, when skies are dreary, temperatures are chilly and some attractions may close for the season.

Hungary on a Budget

Hungary is affordable in comparison to much of Western Europe, but prices do rise in the peak summer season and over the winter holidays. Travel during the fall and spring shoulder seasons for lower hotel rates, and consider alternatives such as hostels or apartment rentals. To save on lunch, look for typical fast food offerings such as palacsinta (crepes) or langos (a fried flatbread with a variety of toppings).
