Hummingbird’s Home (Skaneateles, NY)

Author: Joseph Mach
Date of Trip: May 2005

We stayed at Hummingbird’s Home for two days while visiting my DW’s aunt and uncle in Skaneateles. Our stay was terrific. The Magnolia room was large and comfortable, with a large closet. The proprietress, Sabina, was friendly and talkative, and served fantastic breakfasts which ruined our diets. We talked about classical music, world history, Poland (where she’s from), and other interesting stuff. It turns out that her grandparents came from a town near where my grandparents came from.

As you can see from the above paragraph, B & B’s are very personal and quirky. If you want anonymity, try a motel, not a B & B.

Before we checked in, Sabina asked for our food preferences and avoidance items, and tailored the two breakfasts (French toast one morning, mushroom omelette the other) to our tastes. Lots of fruit, real maple syrup, brewed tea (which we tea drinkers seldom find), juices, etc.

Good room, good food, quiet location (actually about 100 yards west of the Skaneateles town line), friendly owner, friendly dog, lovely gazebo: what more can one ask from a B & B? Definitely a five star experience!
