Galena Restaurants

Craving comfort food? You can choose between hearty pasta joints, Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, and cafes where made-to-order breakfasts and housemade pies are always available. Ethnic eats more your style? Try the Chinese, Mexican and German restaurants that make up some of Galena’s more diverse dining options. You’ll also find romantic bistros and fine restaurants where world-class chefs create decadent, multi-course menus that rival anything you’ll see in the big cities. Keep your eye out for eateries featuring Midwest regional specialties, like local farm-raised pork loin with cherries from Door County, Wisconsin, or fondue made with Wisconsin cheeses and beer.

Vinny Vanucchi’s
Address: 201 South Main Street
Cuisine: Italian
Word of Mouth: “We decided to go here because all of the locals recommended it. (Always listen to locals.) Everything was amazing. I can’t recall our server’s name but he was a very friendly red-haired fellow who answered all of our questions and offered suggestions as well. My wife had the pasta a la Vinny while I had the Seafood Italiano. TO DIE FOR UMM UMM GOOD. Oh yeah, I also have to mention that the salad and bread we received was amazing.” — ChicagoGeorge

One Eleven Main
Address: 111 North Main Street
Cuisine: American
Word of Mouth: “I live and work in Galena and eat out often — One Eleven is the best new restaurant in town — just turned one year old in November. Terrific chef who knows how to present reasonably priced food with a flair — some of his fresh fish dishes are first rate. The emphasis is on locally grown produce and meats and fowl, and nightly specials are truly special.” — Danamal

Cannova’s Pizzeria
Address: 247 North Main Street
Cuisine: Pizza
Word of Mouth: “Cannova’s Pizzeria was a delicious and inexpensive dining experience. Everyone recommended the pizza, so that is what we ordered. It was VERY good — a crispy crust and a wonderful flavor. I also had a salad (which was very generously sized). The waiter seemed a little out of place in this simple family restaurant — he would have fit better in a far more upscale eatery — which is a way of saying the service was excellent.” — drac144

Fritz and Frites
Address: 317 North Main Street
Cuisine: French, German
Word of Mouth: “The onion soup is out of this world and should not be missed … the best I’ve EVER had. My pot roast sandwich was really good. My husband had a sandwich to start with and liked everything so well that he ordered the BLT croissant for desert. It was very, very good. The menu is limited, but they do such an exceptional job on the things they do have. A great place to relax and enjoy some really good food.” — MNwannaB

Fried Green Tomatoes
Address: 213 North Main Street
Word of Mouth: “My wife and I stayed in Galena this past weekend and ate at several different restaurants; Fried Green Tomatoes was our favorite by far. The service is top notch and the staff is knowledgeable about the history of the building as well as their entrees and wine menu. Each entree comes with soup, salad and bread. I had the espresso steak, good portion size and my wife had the veal piccata, prepared just like the Italian Chicago restaurants!!” — travel4lifeChi

Perry Street Brasserie
Address: 124 North Commerce Street
Cuisine: Mediterranean, Continental, International
Word of Mouth: “All of their dishes were so creative. I still cannot get over the curry mango chutney seafood dish (lobster, scallops and shrimp) that I had. The seafood was so succulent. We were told that the chef had cooked for the Beatles and royalty. The other dishes that we didn’t have were equally creative — one had habanero with honey. Very interesting combinations and all tasty. Very nice atmosphere too.” — MicheleSW

Log Cabin Steakhouse
Address: 201 North Main Street
Cuisine: Steakhouse
Word of Mouth: “We were in the mood for steak and the B&B owner recommended this place. The staff was friendly. Atmosphere was comfortable and cozy. I ordered the crab legs while my husband had the rib eye and we both enjoyed our dinners. I was hesitant about ordering seafood (wondering how fresh it would be) but the crab legs were some of the best I’ve had. Good-sized portions and a hearty meal.” — KAC689
