Cornerstone Bed & Breakfast (Brandywine Valley, PA)

Author: Terri
Date of Trip: October 2001

Our first and so far only trip to a B&B was for our 3rd anniversary in Oct 1991 (yes, I know, the earlier menu only let me pick dates back to 2001). My husband is a native Floridian and as such had never seen fall colors. We decided to plan a trip north, so armed with a book on Bed & Breakfasts we researched, and researched, and researched some more. Eventually we picked the Cornerstone Bed & Breakfast in the Brandywine Valley of Pennsylvania.

We rode the train from South Florida to Philadelphia. Cornerstone Inn was very charming. Filled with antiques yet retaining the feeling of a home not a museum. We never got to meet the owners as they were on vacation but the lady caring for the property was wonderful. Our room was beautiful with a canopy bed and fireplace. The bathroom had a huge clawfoot tub. The breakfasts were outstanding and except for seeing the other guests at the breakfast table, we felt as if we had the whole place to ourselves.

My husband could not believe the beauty of the area. There were so many things nearby to do. Our favorite was Longwood Gardens, but we also enjoyed Wintherthur and the Chadd’s Ford Winery. I’m not sure why we haven’t returned other than we had a couple of children and most of our vacations revolve around them. Someday I will return though, it is truly a wonderful place.
