Chicago – My Name in Lights at Wrigley Field

Author: Judy M.
Date of Trip: August 2008

My husband offered to take me to Chicago for my birthday. That’s all I needed to hear-I immediately sat down at the computer and made our airline reservations and began my research of the Windy City.

After studying hotels, I decided we should stay at The Drake, a beautiful old hotel build in 1920 in the Italian Renaissance style. It has history and charm in every corner and is at the beginning of the famous Magnificent Mile. We did all the touristy things like riding the double decker bus for a tour of the city, taking the elevator 103 stories to the top of the Sears Tower, discovering Millennium Park and Navy Pier and going to the theatre. My favorite day was visiting the Art Institute of Chicago. We stared in amazement at masterpieces such as Seurat’s Sunday at Grand Jatte, American Gothic by Grant Wood, and at the magnificent flower paintings of Georgia O’Keefe literally drinking in the art of centuries.

Friends had recommended hotels, restaurants, museums and kept saying ‘don’t miss going to a ballgame at Wrigley Field’. This was not my priority, but, if I got to do all the things on my list, why not relent and go see this famous old ball park. Luckily a friend promised he could get us tickets. We had great seats, enjoyed a hot dog and what’s a ball game without peanuts. About the middle of the fourth inning, I was watching the reader board when to my delight I saw “Happy Birthday Judy Moore”. What a surprise! Now who else can say their name was up in lights at Wrigley Field?

What a wonderful weekend in Chicago I would highly recommend it. Unfortunately, I can’t promise that your name will be in lights at Wrigley.
