Beautiful View in Italy

Author: Joanne Miller
Date of Trip: March 2013

We had a fabulous 10 days in Italy. We rented a car and spent our first day in Rome. We toured the city for our first day going to famous sites including the Vatican, ruins and colloseum. The town is fabulous with all of its history.

We then travelled to Florence. We actually took the scenic route as we weren’t in a hurry. The small towns that we went through were so quaint and the people so nice. Florence was spectacular with all the sites and beautiful views. The views from the towers and hills of the town were absolutely stunning. We stayed overnight in Florence and then travelled to Venice. The day we arrived it rained so we found other things to do such as window shop and ate (which we enjoyed so much). The following day we had sun all day and went on a boat ride and also walked the town. We got lost a few times but that was the fun of it. There are so many canals and bridges it is easy to do.

We then decided to travel to Naples the following day. We stopped in Oravita on our way which is located on a top of a hill. The ride up was narrow and scary but exciting in the way. The next morning we stopped in Naples. This is my least favorite of all the places I visited in Italy. It was dirty and not very friendly. I actually saw a person get robbed right in front of me. I would not recommend this city to anyone even though they have a lot of architecture.

The following day we traveled to Pompei and saw what was left from the tragic volcano eruption. It was very interesting to see how the people lived back in those times. Our next stop was Sorrento – what a georgous city. The views from our hotel room of the sea and islands were breathtaking. We explored the town and back alley’s with all their stores and then we decided to take a trip to Capris. On the island we rented a scooter and toured part of the island and then walked through the other half. Very clean and friendly island and of course very rich.

Unfortunately our trip was coming to an end so we drove back to Rome and stayed in a B&B near the airport. We took our last night in town walking the docks and enjoying the boats. The next morning we took a flight home. Going to Italy was one of the best trips I have every had. Most of it wasn’t planned out and spur of the moment. We went places that were not set up by a travel agent and not part of the crowds. I would do it all again in a moment.
