Barbados Diving

Author: rjwbster
Date of Trip: February 2008

We just arrived back from a Caribbean cruise. It was a great trip. The highlight of the trip was our stop in Barbados. This was mainly because I love to scuba dive and my wife and I decided this was where we would dive during the cruise. I am always unsure about taking cruise ship excursions. I really think you can do better for yourself on your own.

I looked at what the ship was going to charge us for a dive excursion and didn’t think the price was too bad, it was a little high, but I was mainly concerned about the fact that my wife had not dove in years and I wanted her to have the special instruction available in case she was rusty. So I did some extensive online searching and made a few calls.

I ended up deciding to do a private trip with Eco Dive Barbados, this shop is run by PADI instructor Robert Western. What and excellent choice it turned out to be! I literally only paid about 20 dollars more per person to have a boat to ourselves. Eco Dive usually only carries about 5 divers at a time anyway, so personal service is really not an issue anyway, but for a few extra bucks compared to the cruise lines dive excursion, WHY NOT!

Andrew had some great instructional information for my wife after the first dive. By the time we were part way thru the second dive, my wife was doing incredibly well. Andrew really put us at ease from the very beginning. The water was unusually rough when we were there. But, Andrew took great care in making sure we were safe and more importantly that my wife “felt” safe about the whole situation. We dove several wrecks while we were there and all of the “life” on those wrecks were amazing! If you want to dive Barbados, get ahold of Eco Dive Barbados. www.ecodivebarbados.com
