Tuscany – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Tuscany What to Pack

Situated in central Italy, Tuscany is home to the Uffizi Gallery, the Apennine Mountains and Renaissance art. If you are planning a vacation in Tuscany, you may want to know what to pack.

Clothing and Shoes

If you plan to visit Tuscany in summer, expect a lot of heat. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and plenty of summer clothes including a wide brim hat and several pairs of lightweight pants. Do not pack shorts because Italians typically wear dressier clothes.

Tuscany winters are extremely cold. If your trip is going to take place in winter, pack a few pairs of  heavier pants, sweaters, jackets, warm hats, gloves and scarves. If you want to visit a few of the historic churches, you will need to pack dress clothes. By the way, you might want to bring a couple of washcloths. For some mysterious reason, you will not find a washcloth in your hotel bathroom.

In Tuscany, walking is almost an art form. Wear socks and comfortable walking shoes with cushioning material. If you jog, do not wear running shoes because everyone will know you are a tourist. Also, sandals are not favored for walking on cobblestone streets.

Italian Dictionary

If you want to eat delicious Tuscan cuisine in some of the local restaurants, you will need an Italian dictionary for placing your orders. Of course, if you speak fluent Italian, there is no need for a dictionary. On the other hand, if you have an eclectic culinary palate, eat whatever you are served and leave your dictionary on your desk at home.
