Things To Do in Madison, Wisconsin

Madison Things to Do

Madison is the capital of the U.S. state of Wisconsin and one of the largest cities in the state. Visitors to the region will find that there are many things to do during their stay.

The State Capitol

Rising between the picturesque waters of Lake Monona and Lake Mendota, the majestic granite structure of Wisconsin’s Capitol building glows like a beacon and accentuates the Madison skyline.

Reaching to a height of over 200 feet, the Capitol dome is topped by Daniel Chester French’s elegant gilded bronze statue, “Wisconsin.” Edwin Blashfield’s mural “Resources of Wisconsin” decorates the ceiling of the rotunda, which is the only granite dome in the United States. Free tours are offered throughout the year and at various times between Monday and Saturday.

Entertainment

On Tuesdays from June to August, there are free concerts over the lunch hour on the Capitol grounds. Many genres of music are represented, though it is all tasteful, since it is designed to entertain people who are there to eat. These concerts start at about noon and last for an hour.

There are a number of other locations to visit while you’re n the area. The Henry Vilas zoo is a nice place to take the family, while those who love to fish might want to head to the shores of Monona Lake.
