Okinawa Things To Do – Attractions and Must See

Okinawa Things to Do

Okinawa Island is one of the islands of Japan and a major base for U.S. military personnel. The island boasts a long history, and visitors will find many things to do when they visit.

The Castles

Shuri Castle is the largest of Okinawa’s castles and is located in the southern part of the island, in Naha. It makes for a great day tour due to its lengthy history and many interesting sights. Be aware that once inside the actual castle, pictures are not allowed. However, there are plenty of areas outside where visitors can take some great pictures.

Nakijinjo Castle is one of the remains of the Ryukyu kingdom and is classified as a world heritage site. After the conqueror Shohashi finished conquering Okinawa, Nakijinjo was used to watch for enemies. During its history, parts of it were destroyed due to war. Today, Nakijinjo has been repaired, and visitors can visit the beautiful walls surrounding the area.

Natural Sites

There are two natural sights people can visit in the same day. Cape Hedo is the northernmost point on Okinawa Island and one of the island’s most famous landmarks. It attracts visitors both for its sheer beauty and for its craggy cliffs, which offers challenges to climbers. The Hiji Falls are a bit farther north. Visitors can enjoy a view of the 30 meters high water fall.
