Hood River Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Hood River Things to Do

Hood River, Oregon is a town on the Columbia River that is named after the other nearby river. Like most of Oregon, it is rife with natural beauty, making it a popular location for the tourist that is a fan of the outdoors. If you are planning a trip to Hood River, here are some tips on the most popular things to do in the city.

Take the Mt. Hood Railroad

The Hood River railroad offers a couple of day excursions from the city. They go to either Parkdale or Odell. The trip goes through beautiful apple orchards, lumber yards, and vineyards. The scenery is breathtaking and the trip takes about four hours round trip.

See Flowers on Dog Mountain

The mountain that sits right next the Columbia River, Dog Mountain, is a popular attraction for those that enjoy floral sight seeing. It is often called “nature’s floral arrangement” because of the natural flower gardens that pop up all over the mountain trails. It is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the area.

Mt. Adams

The tallest peak in the area is Mt. Adams, a 12,000 foot+ volcanic peak that sits just to the north of the Hood River. It is a little harder to find than some of the other popular peaks in the area, so it is not as famous as they are. It is surrounded by glaciers and presents a fairly easy hike for travelers on the North and South sides of the mountain. One fun thing to do is observe how deep the snow pack is by how high it goes on the old time cabins that miners used to live in on the mountain.
