Lush, fertile Hunza Valley is an oasis of peace high in the mountains of Pakistan. Enjoy the ancient fort, the historic pass and the locally grown fruit. Hunza Valley is a historic region of Pakistan where travelers have chosen to stay for centuries. Today, it’s home to many attractions including a restored fort and a snow covered glacier.

Baltit Fort

Perched nearly three thousand meters above sea level, Baltit Fort was the opulent residence of the local rulers. In contemporary times, it’s a popular place to head for wonderful views across the valley. A restoration carried out by the Aga Khan Trust has brought it to life again. Admire the ingenious canal system that brings water from melted glaciers.

Hispar Pass and Hopar Glacier

The pass is where the valley opens between two mountains. Climb the pass for a look at the routes taken from Pakistan to China. This makes a great walk on a warm spring day. Head out of the community about forty kilometers and you’ll find Hopar glacier. The glacier has several walking paths you can explore on foot.

Karimabad

A town of stone walls and steep, sloping terraces, Karimabad is a the capital of the area and makes a pleasant stroll. This is still where caravans stop for rest along the roads to the rest of Asia. Walk along the Ultar Nala. Seven water channels flow west while another five head east. The channels have an elevated walkway where you can see the rest of the area. Stop off and sample the famous locally-grown fruit including apricots, cherries and apples.
