Zagreb Warnings or Dangers

Planning a visit to the Zagreb Region of Croatia?  Take a moment to look over a few warnings to help you stay safe during your time there.

Climate

Zagreb’s climate changes with the seasons and many are surprised by the extremeness of the weather.  Temperatures during the summer can soar to around 40C and snow during the winter is common.  Be sure to check weather reports and pack and plan accordingly to ensure the weather doesn’t ruin your visit.

Architecture

Zagreb’s streets are lined in many places with old street lamps, they are ornamental and beautiful, but due to their age, they may be dangerous. The glass is quite heavy and could be harmful if it were to fall on someone. Many of the older buildings in the area, particularly around St. Mark’s Square are under renovation and are covered in scaffolding. Take care when approaching or passing below these areas for falling debris.

Parking and Transportation:

The spider: Parking in Zagreb can be particularly tricky, there are rules for where you can park and when, and cars that are wrongly parked are often towed away by the spider.  Vehicles are taken to a location where you can pay a fine and pick up your car.

Sleeper Trains: Use care when riding sleeper trains, make sure to lock your doors at night and keep valuables out of sight.

Venturing out at night: As with most areas, tourists in Zegreb are viewed as easy targets, be aware of your surroundings and try to avoid walking around the city alone at night. Keep valuables hidden and don’t carry more currency than you need for the day.
