Tips on Sweden Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Sweden Warnings and Dangers

Picturesque Sweden is a country in Northern Europe whose coastal lands draw many tourists. However, it’s best to be aware of some local dangers in order to stay safe.

Pickpockets and Scammers

Watch your wallet, because pickpockets are especially busy during the summer. You’ll find a significant number around the huge shopping mall, ‘Östra Nordstan’. There has been an influx of people from other countries, and the risk of theft has risen with some of them.

Sometimes during the peak of tourist season, you will see gamblers in the street. Although it looks like easy money, these people are con men and have ‘audience workers’ in the crowd to fool you into parting with your money.

Troubles with Taxis

There are cities in Sweden where taxis seem to overcharge by far. Look for taxis with prints on the side of the cars and not just a taxi light on the roof. Some of these scam companies have been known to charge tourists 300 crowns for the short ride from the bus station to the Hilton hotel. This is a journey that locals would never pay more than 60 crowns for.

The latest taxi related issue in Stockholm is credit card theft. When you pay with a card, make sure it is your card they hand you back. They sometimes swap it for a similar looking card. Also, as is typical in most places, it’s important that the driver does not see you pin code.
