Tips on Czech Republic Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Czech Republic Warnings and Dangers

The Czech Republic is a country in Central Europe that is bordered by major nations such as Germany and Poland. While the country draws thousands of tourists each year, there are warnings and dangers that tourists should keep in mind when visiting.

The Pickpockets of Prague

Prague is known not only for its beauty, but also for its pickpockets. With all the crowds that flock to the city, there are thieves who take advantage of distracted visitors. There are a few places to be particularly cautious, including Charles Bridge, the old town hall, and heavily-traveled metro lines. Anywhere there are a large number of tourists, you will most likely find pickpockets, so be cautious.

Taxis in Prague

Private taxis in Prague should be avoided, and tourists should use the official taxi stands posted around the city. Reputable taxi companies will charge you using a meter and avoid trying to scam you out of your money. Private taxi drivers will often pretend to forget about turning on their meters.

Money Exchanges

There are several currency exchange bureaus in Prague which use a simple trick to rip off their customers. A legitimate exchange bureau usually displays the “buy” rates on the left column and the “sell” rates on the right. Some of these bureaus will flip where the rates are displayed, leaving you with less money that you thought you would have. In other cases, they will charge an extremely high commission. Tourists should be very attentive when visiting these places.
