Tips on Cyprus Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Cyprus Warnings and Dangers

Cyprus is a favorite vacation place for people from around the world. Here are some warnings and dangers you should know about if you are planning to vacation on this Mediterranean island.

Street Vendors

You should expect to experience aggressive street vendors while in Cyprus; especially if you look like a tourist. The vendors will try to sell you things from products to timeshares. A timeshare vendor will bring along a handful of cards and have you to pick one. You might win a bottle of wine, but you’ll also have to sit through a 4-hour timeshare presentation to get it. If you see someone coming at you with cards in their hands, tell them you just bought a piece of property and they’ll scurry away.

Driving can be Difficult

The first thing to remember is that people drive on the left side of the road like in England. Most rental car companies require that you stay on paved roads because the dirt roads are in such bad shape. Seeing people with damaged tires and wheels is commonplace (and if it happens to you on a dirt road, it will not be covered by your car rental insurance policy). You can expect to see potholes and boulders on the roads. People also regularly drive through stop signs and red lights, so be extra careful.

Dragon-Fish

If you going to go in the water, you should make sure you wear swim shoes. The dragon-fish typically hide in the sand near the shoreline and, if you step on one, the spines on the fins will penetrate your skin and cause you a lot of pain and discomfort.

Heat Waves

Heat waves are a common occurrence during the summer. You want to drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun during the afternoon if you are there when one happens.
