Tips on Algodones Warnings and Dangers – Stay Safe!

Algodones Warnings and Dangers

Headed to the intriguing area of Algodones anytime soon? Make sure you know the warnings and dangers of the area before you go so that you can have fun and stay safe!

Bars

If you are headed out for a Cerveza or two, make sure you keep in mind a few common warnings that other tourists and locals alike know to be true. Many seemingly innocent bars are nothing more than brothels, and there is a common theme that the “Green Door” bar is one of these places. If you are looking for a good place to get a drink, it’s best to stay out of the local bars and keep to the more touristy ones. While it may be on obvious warning to keep an eye on your money, you need to make sure you know how much cash you are giving away (no matter how much you have had to drink) as more than a few people have given up a 20 dollar bill only to get change back as if they gave the cashier a 10 dollar bill). Also, don’t get tricked into buying gold while here in Algodones, there isn’t any and you will likely be paying a lot of money for nothing.

Street Sales

You can get some amazing items for sale off the streets of Algodones, but if you are bringing children with you, it is best to be wary of where you take them in the area. There are some very age inappropriate toys being sold that can raise unnecessary questions from young children. Many people notice that on the street market of Algodones, the only children out are local children, who appear unfazed by all of it. Most tourists keep their children to other areas of the city. As noted above, there is no gold for sale in Algodones, so don’t waste your time or money.

Miscellaneous Warnings

If you are headed to Algodones to get dental work done, cheap medication, etc. and aren’t just touring, don’t stay past dark. Not only can some of the locals be a bit unfriendly but so can the police. Tourists have been reported being arrested for no reason at all, harassed, and even robbed by the police in this area. To make up for the hard economy in the area, you can be arrested for some pretty ridiculous things and fined a lot of money for them.
