Badland National Park
The heart South Dakota, the Badlands are are miles of wilderness managed by the National Park Service and the Oglala Dakota tribe. The park is the site of a former United States bomb range. You can come here for a few hours or choose to stay on the land and go camping. Animals you can see here include the prairie dog, bighorn sheep, bison, black-footed ferret, bobcat, mule deer and swift fox. Walk the Prairie Wind overlook and see miles of waving grass. The Cliff Shelf Nature Trail Boardwalk will bring you through the Cedar Forest. Climb the Red Shirt Table, the highest point for a park with a magnificent view.
