Things to Do in Old Town San Diego, California

Old Town San Diego Things to Do

History comes alive in Old Town San Diego. Here are some of the best sites worth visiting.

Heritage Park

In the spirit of preserving San Diego’s history, Heritage Park was created to give safe harbor to some of San Diego’s oldest and most distinguished buildings that were in danger of being demolished. At present there are seven buildings here in Victorian, Italianate, Stick-Eastlake, Queen Anne and Classic Revival styles, and there is room for more to be added.

Mormon Battalion Site

The San Diego Mormon Battalion Site was completed renovated in 2009 and reopened in 2010. It has become a must see when visiting Old Town. The site is now a historical museum that presents the area’s Mormon history in an entertaining interactive movie presentation and displays authentic artifacts from the Army of the West.

Old Town San Diego State Historical Park

While in San Diego, many visitors flock to Old Town State Historical Park. It’s a replica of the first Californian settlement. This State Historical Park was established in 1969 as a landmark area of California, which led to the development of a living museum that documents the West Coast’s version of Plymouth Rock. Admission is free.

Chapel of the Immaculate Conception

Open to the public, this Mission-style church is a peaceful place to say a prayer or quietly meditate the afternoon away. Cream-colored walls, cool brick floors,
maple-hued pews and dark wood ceiling accents are illuminated beautifully by light filtering through the vibrant hand crafted stained glass windows.

Casa de Estudillo

Constructed between 1827-1829 by Captain Jose Maria de Estudillo, Commander of the San Diego Presidio, La Casa de Estudillo is a wonderfully preserved representation of how an important 19th century family lived and worked.
