Things To Do in Ischia, Italy

Ischia Things to Do

Located at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, Ischia is a volcanic island. Home to a wealth of history and surrounded by breathtaking scenery and nature, Ischia is a great place to get away and offers several must-see things to do.

Pompeii

Visitors can easily take a day trip to visit Pompeii from Ischia. Starting in Ischia, visitors can take a ferry to Naples. From there, hop on a quick bus and train ride to arrive at ancient Pompeii. At Pompeii you can experience a self-guided tour with a numbered tour book and handheld narrator explaining each artifact. There are multiple languages available for the audio narration. Be sure to take your camera, extra memory for photos, comfortable walking shoes, and plenty of water.

Aragonese Castle

The castle is built on volcanic rock and is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The castle was started in 1438 by Alfonso of Aragon and was completed in 1492. For €10, guests can tour the entire castle and the grounds surrounding it. There is a cafe inside the castle for lunch where visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Bay of Naples. Allow about 2 to 3 hours to enjoy a self-guided tour of the castle. Visitors may even have the opportunity to stay in one of the rooms at the castle instead of spending the night in a hotel.

Sorghetto Beach

Thermal springs are a popular attraction for visitors to take a seat and unwind. Accessible by stairs down a steep cliff, the beach is for free to visit. There is a small bar and cafe at the bottom of the cliff where visitors can enjoy a cool drink and lunch. For a few euros you can pay to have thermal mud treatments painted on you. Be sure to wear sandals in the hot pools because the rocks are quite sharp.
