Honningsvag is an ideal place see the northern lights. These bands of light come alive in at night overhead all night long. If you’re visiting during the winter months, it’s dark nearly all year long. Head outside from October to March between six p.m. and one a.m. at night on a cloudless night without a full moon and look up.

Skarsvag

The northernmost fishing village in Norway, this is where you’ll can see fish being unloaded for ports across the Arctic. There’s a wharf where you can watch the boats unload. Try some of the fresh fish or the dried version for a delicious Norwegian treat. There’s an art gallery called East of the Sun that showcases local art.

Sami Culture

The ancient indigenous culture of northern Norway, Sami settlements can be see in many parts of town. Many Sami are happy to talk to visitors. Watch as they work with their herds of reindeer, create ingenious homes from local materials and offer the chance to try food items such as dried berries and reindeer meat.

The Midnight Sun 

Coming here during the summer means being someplace where the sun doesn’t set for months. Head outside at ten at night and see the sun still in the sky. The endless daylight hours allow for the opportunity to see a new way of looking at the world.
