Things to Do in Greenville, Texas

Greenville Things to Do

Greenville is a Northern Texas city not far from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It is in the heart of cotton country and is the home of a museum that depicts the history of that industry. The city is named after one of the most important figures in Texas becoming a Republic, Thomas Green. If you are planning on spending time in Greenville, here are some tips on some things to do.

History

While you are in Greenville, visit a monument to one its greatest heroes, Edwin Arnold. He was born and raised in the town and was even a part of their state champion football team. He was a war hero and was referred to by many of his fellow men as Edwin “Cotton” Arnold. His medals are on display today.

Puddin Hill Store

The Puddin Hill store is an interesting little shop in town, thanks to its location next to a bakery and confectionery. Originally, this store is on the spot where the original farm was located. The farm was owned by James and Mary Horton, and the store still using their original recipes today to make their world renowned cakes. If you have a sweet tooth and are on a diet, I wouldn’t recommend setting foot in the store. It is so good that it is almost impossible not to leave with something.

Monty Stratton

There is also a display regarding the accomplishments of another local hero in the area, Monty Stratton. His story is pretty interesting. He was a star athlete in the area and ended up as a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. Unfortunately, he lost one of his legs in a hunting accident, but continued to play baseball.
