Dar es Salaam is located within Tanzania and is the former capital.  It’s known for Bongo-flava music and the most common dish is Ugali. The Indian Ocean

A must see and feel is the Indian Ocean. The water feels like a warm bath and beach sand is very fine. There are many beaches in Salaam. If you like to go to a calm and clean beach, go to Kipepeo Beach or take a ferry to one of the small islands around the city.

The Slipway is a shopping arcade in Msasani area, with several restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. there are also a couple of pubs and beach areas overlooking the bay. On Sundays, there is a large market for handy crafts that’s sure to please any collector. Here you can buy souvenirs and gifts to your folks back home.

Explore off the Beaten Path

Enjoy just wandering the downtown streets, observing the Muslim dress of the locals, listening to the sounds of Swahili being spoken, smelling the spices and tropical plants and exploring the many crowded and narrow streets set up with small shops and stalls. Don’t forget to take a stroll down Barack Obama Drive!

Fun for All

The Yacht Club is a slide park in Salaam that is sure to thrill even the young at heart. Take a catamaran to Zanzibar. It takes about an hour and visit the National Museum.

The Beach Boys sang it, but where can you literally do it but in Salaam!  The waters maybe a little too calm to surf, but you can try. The guided safari trips are always the best way to visit giraffes and other animals native to this area.
