Cape Breton Island Things To Do in

There are many exciting things to do in Cape Breton Island, including hiking the many trails, sightseeing, whale watching, and more. With the National Park and interesting museums, a tourist will never run out of things to do.

Hiking Trails and Museums

One of the must-see trails is the MacIntosh Brook Trail, which is shorter than some of the others. It is a great trail for an easy walk and at the end is a waterfall. One of the most well-known trails is the Skyline Trail because it is very accessible, to those even in wheelchairs. The views are breathtaking and there’s a good chance of seeing wildlife. The trails are mostly wide gravel paths, and from the mountains whales can even be seen in the ocean. The trail takes about two to three hours to finish, but is worth every step. Another trail is the Jack Pine Trail, which offers views of Cape Breton’s shoreline and the magnificent vistas over the water. There are also museums such as the Whale Interpretive Center, which is located in the fishing village of Pleasant Bay. It showcases the 16 types of whales that are found off the coast of Nova Scotia.

Wildlife Lovers Galore

Whale watching tours have become a popular thing and the best time to see whales are from May to mid-October. You might see fin whales, humpback, and pilot, as well as dolphins/porpoises. It is also important to look out for moose. It isn’t unheard of to spot a moose on the Skyline Trail. They are very common in the Highlands Park. It is important to keep a safe distance, because wild animals can charge if they feel threatened.
