Positano Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Positano Transportation

Located on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, Positano is a small village resort with Moorish architecture, beautiful beaches and historical sights. For visitors traveling to the area, there are several ways to get around the village depending on how much you want to spend and how fast you want to get there.

Put on Your Walking Shoes

The main method of travel in downtown Positano is by walking. The roads are very narrow and steep which make it a challenge for tour buses and automobiles. Walking to the beach is strenuous work, so unless you are physically fit you may choose to stay close to town or around your accommodations.

Traveling by Minibus

If you plan on taking a tour of the surrounding area, the main method of travel is by minibus. The buses can fit up to 25 people. Drivers are experts on the road and know how to navigate the steep and winding streets. There are still some streets even the minibuses won’t go down. The pickup and drop off point in Positano is at the Eni gas station. From there it is a short walk to the shops and beaches.

Car Rentals

If you are feeling somewhat adventurous, you can always rent a car and try to traverse the highways on your own. If you have never been to Positano it’s a good idea to avoid the car rentals. Vehicles are inexpensive and clean and you can travel from one location to the next in private.

Choosing the Commuter Train

A train runs from Naples to Sorento several times a day. It takes about 50 minutes to make the trip but it is inexpensive. You can choose a train from Naples to Positano but be sure to check the schedule because it doesn’t run often.
