Negombo Nightlife – Clubs, Bars & Nightlife Tips

Negombo Nightlife

Negombo is the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka and is located on the island’s western coast. While you won’t find many nightclubs or discos, there are several lively bars you can visit during your stay.

Bars

On Beach Road, you’ll find three of the most popular bars in the city, Rodeo, Sherry Land, and Lords, The bars are within walking distance, inviting visitors to grab a drink at one place before heading to another. They’re not as crowded or exciting as bars in Cabo or Cancun, but they serve cold drinks and the locals are friendly. These bars also serve food and some cater to families earlier in the day. While in Negombo, pace yourself and respect the local community. The party scene is limited and the local police tolerate drinking, but they won’t hestitate to ticket you or place you under arrest if you’re publicly intoxicated or disorderly.

Hotels and Beach Parties

Another option for evening entertainment in Negombo is to checkout the hotels. Most hotels serve food and drinks and you should be able to find travelers like you who are up for a good time. Another helpful tip is to talk to the locals. Most are up to speed on events going on around town and are more than willing to fill you in on where to go. Use caution, however. You’re in a foreign city and unfamiliar with the neighborhoods, so don’t venture into isolated areas until you know more about those who invited you.

Beach parties are common in Negombo and are fairly easy to find. Hotels, restaurants, and bars often host these events, which often feature dancing and live music. Read the local newspaper while in town and speak with the hotel staff to learn where and when these events are taking place. Nightlife is harder to come by in Negombo, but there’s excitement to be found if you know where to look. Travel agents and local guides are also good people to talk to before heading to Negombo for the first time.
