Namibia – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Namibia What to Pack

The African country of Namibia is mostly desert, so it’s important that you prepare for that type of environment. If you plan on going on safari, you might want to pack other necessities to make your trip more comfortable.

Luggage

No matter what you have planned for your Namibian adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.

Warm Clothing in Winter

Namibia gets very cold during the winter season, which runs from May to September in this part of the world. While it doesn’t snow, you will still need a warm jumper or fleece, especially on the coast. Many lodges will try to help you keep warm with fireplaces and hot water bottles. When camping, dress in layers at night. Daytime temperatures are usually more comfortable or even warm.

Clothes to Pack

Always Carry Water

Once you get to Namibia, buy as much water as you can carry, especially if you’re planning to go out in the bush. You will need to carry at least two liters with you at all times and carry about 10 liters in your car. If you break down, it can take all day for a tow service to arrive, and drinkable water is not always available outside of the larger towns.

Camping Supplies

When camping or going on safari, try to pack light and carry a first aid kit, camera equipment with spare batteries, binoculars and good hiking shoes. Getting a battery-free, wind-up flashlight is a huge help as batteries are very difficult to find out in the bush. Pack everything in a soft bag and keep everything wrapped, if possible, to keep out dust or water. Always wear sunscreen even in the winter.
