Hvar Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Hvar Shopping

A beautiful island in Croatia, Hvar is famous for perfect beaches and its natural lavender. When you’re going shopping in Hvar, put these tourist favorite products and stores at the top of your list.

Buy the Lavender

Hvar’s most famous crop has a delightful aroma and is the island’s biggest must buy item. Known for healing wounds, cleaning, and toning, lavender can be bought at stalls and stores all over the island. You can buy lavender satchels to put in your bag or drawers or lavender massage oil.

Shop Local at the Port Stalls

Rows of vendors sell their wares at the port stalls surrounding the harbor. You can buy lavender and a wide variety of local spices, foods, and souvenirs at the port stalls.  The stalls tend to be less expensive than buying items at local stores.

Don’t Miss the Clothes and Jewelry

Various stores and stall vendors sell beautiful jewelry for budgets of all kinds. Much of the jewelry is homemade and looks like a work of art. Tanja Curin is one popular designer who makes wearable sculptures that range from 30 to 500 euros.

The clothing stores particularly cater to younger women 40 and under and children. Blue Gallery is one popular Hvar clothing store that sells funky women’s and children’s clothing and bags and has friendly and helpful staff.

Get Unique Art at Art Galleries

Along with wearable art, you can buy handpainted dalmatian boats, ceramic Hvar house replicas, sculptures, and paintings. The most popular gallery is Sosa, owned by Sonja Sosa and her husband. The shop is spacious and beautifully decorated. Sosa sells high quality ceramics, especially of boats and local homes, necklaces, paintings, scarves, folk music CDs, and even chairs.

Get Local Produce

You can get delicious local Hvar food and drink from stores and stalls, such as the wine, lavender and sage liquor, olive oil, honey, marmalade, figs, and anchovies. However, make sure the food is truly local to Hvar and not imported. Try to go to markets and stands in the interior of town, further from tourist areas. Delicie is a popular local shop that sells local meat, cheese, and olives.
