Girona Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus, & Airport Tips

Girona Transportation

Girona is often overlooked, and this is a mistake! It’s a charming city, and transportation to and from Girona is not complicated. Here are some tips on how to get to/around this Spanish city.

Barcelona – Girona Airport

Barcelona – Girona Airport is a small international airport, seven miles away from the city of Girona. It’s a bustling airport, as Ryanair flies there with connections all over Europe. From the airport you have direct bus connections to both Girona Center and Barcelona.

From Barcelona

Girona is located 61 miles north of Barcelona and is easily reached from there by bus, train, or car.  Many people skip Girona, but don’t! Girona is historical and charming. High speed trains from Barcelona take 35 minutes to arrive, and slower, less expensive trains take an hour and a half. Buses also take you from Barcelona to Girona. In Girona, the train and bus stations are next to one another.

Once in Girona

Girona is a lovely medieval city, easily accessible by walking. Getting into the old section takes 15 minutes; just over the first bridge you’ll find a tourist office with information and maps. Cobblestone streets lead the way as you explore, though some are uphill so be prepared to walk. At the top of the hill, at the river, visit the old Jewish Quarter, medieval cathedral, moorish gardens, and the University. There are many places to eat and drink along the way, though check the hours: some close from 1:30PM to 4:00PM for siesta.

Traveling by Car

Here are some helpful driving distances from Girona:
