Weather in Orlando and Other Warnings and Dangers

Warnings and Dangers in Orlando: Weather

Home to Mickey Mouse, Disneyland, Sea World and a host of other family attractions, Orlando is a hot spot for visitors in Florida. The weather is usually mild in the winter and hot and humid in the summer. While generally pleasant, the weather in Orlando can change quickly and there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Beware the Afternoon Shower

One of the most common occurrences in Florida in the summertime is the afternoon shower. These small thunderstorms can creep up in a single second, last only a few minutes but leave you drenched to the core if you are not prepared. Because Florida borders two different coasts, the change in temperatures can result in strong cloud to ground lightning so it’s best to seek cover if you are out and about. Regardless of where you will be traveling within the city, it’s always a good idea to take an umbrella or at least a change of clothes.

Save Your Skin

The sun can be unbearable in Florida regardless of the time of year. Summers are incredibly hot and if you are fair skinned you will burn unless you take precautions. Wear a hat to provide a small amount of shade to the face, and be sure to wear lots of sunscreen and reapply often. If you must be out in the sun for long periods, it’s also a good idea to have cold water on hand to stay hydrated.

Hurricane Season

Florida is well known for it’s hurricanes and evacuations are common. If you are planning a visit any time between June and November, it’s a good idea to keep watch on the weather to avoid any incoming inclement weather. Even though Orlando lies slightly inland, there is still a good chance a hurricane will blow through.
