Other Towns, Cabo San Lucas – Off the Beaten Path

Off the Beaten Path in Cabo San Lucas: Other Towns

Get away from the fast pace of Cabo San Lucas and relax in these quieter towns.

Todos Santos

When you’re tired of fast paced Cabo San Lucas, rent a car and head north about 45 minutes to Todos Santos. About 5,000 people live here and it’s one of only 15 cities in Mexico with the distinctive label of “Pueblo Magico”. This “magic town” is filled with great artisans, wonderful jewelry, mouth watering food and many friendly locals. Todos Santos still has many dirt roads, so it’s quite literally off the beaten path. The Hotel Calfornia is here, but make sure you venture past this well known land mark.

Arriba de la Roca

If you’re looking for a unique, private place to spend a few days, check in at Arriba de la Roca. It’s perched on a cliff above the Pacific about ten minutes before Todos Santos. It has an amazing location, great service, miles of untouched beach and is just a remarkable place to spend your vacation. Nearby Cerritos Beach is great for surfers.

Los Barriles

Stay at the lovely Hotel Palmas de Cortez in Los Bariles. Have lunch by the pool overlooking the beach – you can get two huge baskets of chips, homemade pico de gallo, a great freshly made guacamole, four margaritas, and two cokes for $25 (with a big tip). The beach in front of the hotel has a small bay and warmer water than Cabo.

San Jose del Cabo

On the eastern end of the tip of the Baja California peninsula, San José del Cabo offers a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. The city is small and the hotels are spread out. Try deep-sea and ‘panga’ fishing in the teeming waters of the Sea of Cortez. Other activities include whale watching and golf at the championship courses that are sprouting up throughout the area. The marsh north of the city serves as a nesting area for many bird species during the ‘wet’ season. If the purpose of your vacation is to relax, you’re much more likely to achieve your goal by staying in San Jose del Cabo than in Cabo San Lucas.
