Tips on Switzerland Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Switzerland Warnings and Dangers

The picturesque and attractive Switzerland sits tucked away into the Swiss Alps mountain range. Although a popular tourist destination, visitors should be aware of local warnings and dangers.

Financial Troubles

There are a couple of tips to keep in mind regarding money. First, make sure you have Suisse Francs. Most places accept U.S. Dollars, but only with a steep commission. In other places, you won’t be able to use euros. Just to be safe, make sure you’re carrying francs on you.

Also, be aware that Switzerland has a high cost of living, and even a simple meal can cost about 10 swiss francs. You should anticipate similar high prices when renting rooms in the country.

Finally, fines in Switzerland can be quite high. Travelling without a valid train or bus ticket can cost you up to $100. A speeding ticket can easily eat up a large part of your budget, as well. On the main routes, and especially inside Zurich, there are countless speed cameras. This is not a tourist rip off, as fines are the same also for locals. Make sure to adhere to all local laws if you don’t want to end up paying these steep fines.

Hotel Problems

Choose your hotel carefully if you intend to explore the Berner Alpen and other parts of the country. Some places provide perfect access but come at higher prices per room. Other hotels are cheaper, but make it far more difficult to explore some of the prettiest parts of the country. Make sure you research your hotels well before booking.
