Things to Do in Praiano, Italy

Praiano Things to Do

Since Praiano is a town that overlooks the sea, it gives a beautiful dramatic backdrop of the setting sun. It’s just one of the many fabulous things you can see or do in this city.

What to See

If you plan to go to Praiano by bus from Sorrento, this is a “must see activity” in itself. The narrow, winding road gives you the most breathtaking views. Once you arrive other landmarks to see include:

  • Guard Tower – Of medieval origin, it was built to watch the sea and alarm the town of arriving pirates. An inviting local artist now uses the tower and welcomes visitors
  • Basilica San Gennaro – An active Catholic church, it was established in 1884
  • Marina di Praia – Located at the lower part of Praiano village, during ancient times, it was the landing point of the Plagianum
  • Church of San Luca Evangelista – The main church of Praiano, it was built in 1588 upon a preexisting church of 1123. It was rebuilt again in 1772

Walk Down to the Sea

One of Praiano’s charms is its sea with crystalline waters which can only be reached by foot. Almost a thousand steps from the town center (point of reference, Basilica San Gennaro), you go down a paved trail down to the water. Along the way are residential houses, hotels, little villas or bed and breakfasts for tourists. It is a very pleasant walk going down, but can be taxing coming back up. Be sure to carry enough water.

If you’re looking for an excursion, try driving the Amalfi Coast Road and go visit Ravello, an exquisite picture-perfect little Italian town nestled in the hills. You’ll see incredible views along the way and have great photo opportunities.
