It has a prominent role in the railroad industry as the western terminal for the Texas State Railroad. The city is actually named after Palestine, Illinois, not the area in the Middle East. The Redlands Hotel

This hotel was first built in the early 20th century as a luxury hotel for businessmen coming to the area. The hotel is still open today and is a popular place for travelers to stay. It is even on the National Register of Historic Places.

Museum for East Texas Culture 

For a true representation of the history of East Texas, visit the Museum of East Texas Culture. It is housed in what used to be Palestine High School. Visitors can see what a schoolhouse looks like and view other artifacts that are important to the history of East Texas. Most importantly, it details the importance of the railroad industry to the region.

Old Town Palestine 

Old Town represents the architecture of the 1800s in Palestine. People come from all over to this part of town to shop in some of the great antique stores. Some of the buildings are undergoing renovation.

Sacred Heart Church 

The most recent version of this church was finished in 1890. The original version was built in 1872 but later burned down. It is yet another building in Palestine that is on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the town.
