Flacq Market

On Sundays and Wednesdays, the market is full to capacity with fresh local vegetables, poultry, and shops selling Western/Asian designs for great prices. The rest of the week about half of the market is open. Fish are available daily and the freshest catches are available first thing in the morning, there is also a beef shop open on Fridays.

Central Market, Port Louis

Central market is an amazing place to observe the local culture and learn about the people of Mauritius. Along with local fruits and vegetables the market has lots of other items for sale, including bags, incense, beautiful textiles and clothing such as saris as well as other crafts. The ambiance is unmatched and there are plenty of food and drinks to sample. Prices at the market range from very inexpensive to high priced items.

Fabrizio’s Boutique

This boutique is filled with arts and crafts such as magnificent coral jewelry that is made at the boutique. The owner of the boutique, Dominic Duvergé dives for the coral that the bracelets, necklaces and other pieces are made from. Dominic is one of a very select few who are allowed to dive for coral around the island, he also designs the jewelry which his wife then threads by hand.

Saris

Many local women shop at Aiguille Magique Couture which has an enormous selection of saris as well as other clothing, shoes and accessories in a wide range of colors and sizes. The garments are high quality, the people are friendly and you can even have your purchases altered quickly for a reasonable cost.
