Dublin Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Dublin Things to Do

Dublin is Ireland’s capital city, and it’s known for its exciting nightlife and popular tourist attractions. Take a look at some of the top sites and activities that should be on your must-do list as you plan your vacation to Dublin.

Guinness Brewery

Guinness beer is one of those things that people all around the world closely associate with Ireland, and when you’re visiting Dublin, you can get an inside view into how the popular beer is made at the Guinness brewery. Make sure that you set aside several hours for the tour – it’s self-paced, so you can go at whatever speed you like, but there’s so much to see that you’re going to want to take your time and take it all in.

Along the tour, there are plenty of interactive features that will help keep you engaged and explain something new about the brewery or the brewing process. When you reach the top floor of the brewery, you’ll enter the bar, where your ticket entitles you to a free pint. You can even pour it yourself! Then you’ll have a chance to enjoy your brew while taking in the great views of Dublin available from the bar. Don’t forget to stop in the souvenir shop for a keepsake.

Dublin Castle

If you’re interested in the history of the area, the Dublin castle is well worth a visit. Most of the existing structure at the site dates from the 18th century, but there has been a castle on that site since the original one built by King John in 1204. Until the creation of the Irish Free State in the early 1920s, the Dublin castle was the seat of British rule in Ireland.

Today, the castle houses government offices and is used for state events. Parts of the castle, including the State Apartments and Medieval Undercroft, are accessible only when you take a guided tour.

Christchurch Cathedral

The Christchurch cathedral is the oldest stone building in Dublin, but the history of that site goes back even further than the stone church. The first church established on that site was the wooden Viking church founded by Dúnán, the first bishop of Dublin, and Sitriuc, Norse king of Dublin, in 1030 A.D. The stone church standing on the site now was built in 12th century and belongs to the Church of Ireland.

The crypt of the church was used in past centuries as a market, pub, and meeting place. The building has undergone several restoration efforts. It’s also the site where many scenes from the miniseries The Tudors were filmed, especially the church scenes. Don’t miss the chance to get a close look at the unique and beautiful stained glass windows that are the crown jewel of this historic church.

These are just a few of the can’t-miss attractions that Dublin has to offer tourists. Make sure that you include them in your plans when you visit.
