Acadia National Park – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Acadia National Park: What To Pack

Maine’s gorgeous Acadia National Park is a place you must visit if you love outdoor activities and camping. To make sure you’re prepared when you go, follow these packing list essentials from past park visitors.

Luggage

For hiking, a backpack is key for entering the park, due to the fact you’ll definitely get some use out of whatever you choose to pack. For more relaxed stays where hiking may not be your number one priority, a carry-on will suit you just fine.

Sturdy Clothing

The ground tends to be damp all year, so wear sturdy hiking boots or sandals with strong grips for safety. Make sure the clothing you take is practical and comfortable. Temperatures vary, so pack layers. In the summer, most days you’ll be comfortable in shorts and a tank top, and bring a bathing suit for swimming. For the evening or windy days, though, you’ll want long sleeves and a light jacket. During cooler months, keep yourself warm with fleece, vests, and gloves and a hat. A rain jacket or poncho is essential year round.

Clothes to Pack

Camping Gear

Come prepared for roughing it. Pack a study tent, tarp, strong rope, and sleeping bags. Have ample food and snacks with you and a camping stove or firewood for cooking. Some campers also like to bring chairs and air mattresses for maximum comfort

Safety Equipment

Bring safety equipment typical for being in the wilderness. A first aid kit, compass, water bottle, flashlight, and important personal medications are all essentials for hiking in Acadia. The sun is strong, even on cloudy days, so you’ll also need sunscreen.

A Camera

Most visitors appreciate having a high quality camera with a wide angle lens with them to capture panoramic views. Binoculars are also a great item to have.
