Zion National Park – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Zion National Park What to Pack

You should dress in layers here, the weather can get a little chilly at night.

Luggage and Bags

To do the West Rim Trail as an overnight trip you’ll need a backpack.

Hiking/Camping Gear

Bring a space blanket for some shelter in case you get caught there without planning. Even in the summer, it can be really cold at night with the wind. Pack extra food and a water filter. In case you run out, want to be able to purify your own. Canyoneering gear is available for rent in Springdale.

A tent is a great investment, so get a decent one, light enough to backpack but spacious enough to car camp. Sleeping bags and good sleeping mats are just as important. A three burner stove comes in handy for car camping, but a small backpacking stove is better for wilderness trips.

Clothes to Pack

Shoes

Sturdy hiking boots are a must, along with good socks – something people skimp on. Liner socks save you from blisters and if you haven’t tried them you should. Water shoes are essential. You’ll be spending 17 miles in the water – you want protection. If you are going on the Narrows trail, you can rent water shoes and hiking boots in Springdale.

Miscellaneous

Definitely bring a digital camera with lots of memory cards – you will be amazed at how many pictures you will take. Bring sunscreen, insect repellant and a first aid kit – just in case.

Major Tip: ALWAYS have water with you. Even if you don’t hike, the warm weather can be dehydrating.
