Tunis Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Tunis Shopping

Tunis is the capital and largest city in Tunisia. As the largest urban area in the country, it possesses many shops and stores at which you can go shopping.

Markets

To go off the beaten path and experience the local side of daily life in Tunis, head for the Sahib El-Tabia Mosque, which is located a few hundred meters north of the Medina. On the way, you’ll pass through streets lines with fruit and vegetable stalls. The mosque itself is surrounded by people buying and selling clothes.

If you’re looking for an affordable, delicious lunch, try the market in the Ville Nouvelle. It’s not a place for a sit-down meal, but somewhere to buy fresh supplies for a picnic. The market is housed in a large square between rue d’Allemagne and rue d’Espagne.

Finally, Tunis’ central market is a public food market. The main products sold here are fresh bread, fish, cheese, fruits and vegetables, as well as the Tunisian staple, harissa.

Medina

If you are looking to buy some handicrafts, then go straight to the Medina, the old part of the city. It’s a great place to buy local goods, although you’ll have to bargain if you want the best prices. You’ll also find plenty of souvenirs in the area, and plenty of handbags and perfumes. If you’re looking for something to use at home, you’ll also find brass plates, porcelain plates, and bowls. The old city is truly one of the first places to visit when it comes to shopping in Tunis.
