Tips on Broome Warnings or Dangers

Broome Warnings and Dangers

Broome, Australia, is a beautiful place with great beaches, but there are some dangers. Follow these tips on safety.

Gantheamume Point

There are really great views – red rocks and blue-green sea at Gantheamume Point are a great contrast. And the point is right next to Cable Beach. Aside from the roughness of the trail, there are two things to be aware of in this area – first it would be better not to swim here as there are no lifeguards. And second, there are really huge tides. Don’t get so entranced by the dinosaur footprints that you forget that the tide will be coming in.

Warning Signs

The water away from the main beaches, like around the pearl farms and other areas, can look too tempting to not want to dive in. But don’t, you must read the signs and use local knowledge to guide you. You MUST follow all the safety advice here. Read the signage that is all around you. Don’t swim where it says don’t swim, and don’t even fish where it says don’t fish. These signs are for your protection, and for very good reason here. There are dangers aplenty.

There are sea snakes, poisonous jellyfish, sharks, crocs, snake, spiders, and more. So be careful and enjoy this amazing place.

Sand Flies

The tropical weather and mangrove thickets make the perfect environment for Sand flies to live in. They come inland in droves, usally during early morning and at dusk. They can be a real problem and even leave scars. Bring insect repellant!

Special Tip: Don’t sit under the coconut palms. Coconuts are large and heavy and fall off without warning, you wouldn’t want one falling on your head. More people are killed each year by falling cocunuts (150) than shark attacks – about 15 times as many.
