Things to Do in Torrevieja Spain

Torrevieja Spain is a must see if you love historical monuments, structures and lovely outdoor spaces. If you need a few ideas to get you started here are the best things to do in Torrevieja Spain.

Monuments

While in Torrevieja you might want to stop and see the statues that honor the Spanish salt workers. You’ll find it situated between the streets Av. Dr. Gregorio Marano, Av. de la Estacion, Calle los Portalicos and Calle Greco. After you’ve taken pictures with these lovely monuments, head over to the museum all about salt in the city center for the full story.

Structures

Buildings can tell so much about a culture and region, and the church Iglesia Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción is a perfect example of this. It was built in 1789, and rebuilt in 1844 using stones from the original Old Tower (Torre Vieja) erected in the 14th century. You’ll find the church by following the street Calle Ramon Gallud to Plaza de la Constitución in the center of the town. Google Maps may show the wrong location for the church. It’s actually situated 25m to the left from the Google marker, north of the Plaza.

Another beautiful structure is the famous Eagles Nest (Guadalest) which was originally a Moorish stronghold in the 8th century. It’s about 25 km from inland Benidorm and about an hour from Alicante. Eagles Nest has now been declared a Monument of historical and Artistic Value, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country, not to mention one of the most spectacular spots in this area. You’ll find it set high up on a pinnacle of rock and carved out on a mountaintop. As you drive up higher through a winding road you’ll experience breathtaking scenery and the old village can be reached through a tunnel that leads to the ruins of the last castle. There are many artists, workshops, cafes, museums and shops to visit, and the viewing platform in the village offers you the stunning beauty of the surrounding mountains and valleys. As you climb up through steep stairways, you’ll be rewarded with even better views and an enchanting cemetery at the very top. Wear comfortable footwear because you’ll be walking around this beautiful spot for awhile.

Parks

Jardin de las Naciones is a beautiful park for anyone to unwind and enjoy the evening breeze during warm days. With an area of 40,000 m2, it features a large lake dedicated to the nations of Europe with a shape like the European continent. You can also find cultural events held here, making it a great spot for families to enjoy. The park has a large playground for children with a large dragon slide, a train ride and beautiful lake with swan pedallo’s. This park lies between the road CV-90, the main N-332 coastal road and the Calle Villa de Madrid, and it’s open until 9pm with no entrance fee.
