Saudi Arabia is arguably the most influential country in the Middle East and is well known for its extensive oil economy. It is a well-connected country possessing a transportation network of buses, taxis, and airplanes.

Getting By on a Bus

Most new buses are air conditioned and operated by the Saudi Arabian Public Transport Company. They conduct several routes around the city, all which eventually return to downtown Ballad. They also have a vast number of destinations connecting from Jeddah to most cities in the Kingdom. They also operate international routes. Their main bus terminal for out of town destinations is located in downtown Ballad, though there are independent bus operators who service other areas. Most of these buses accommodate between 30 and 45 people.

Traveling by Taxi

The fastest and most accessible way of getting around the city is by taking a taxicab. They’re hard to miss, since each taxi is white in color. Taxi meters, though functioning, are not really in use on most taxis. For that reason, you’ll most likely have to haggle for the price. Women are particularly dependent on taxis, since only men can drive cars or bicycles in the country.

Arriving at the Airport

Jeddah, as a commercial and industrial hub, is connected to most major airlines. These airlines link the country to destinations throughout the world and can be found at Jeddah’s King Abdul Aziz International Airport. Domestic routes are serviced by the Kingdom’s flag carrier, SAUDIA, and a few privately-owned airlines.
