There’s a considerable amount of nightlife found within Melaka. Knowing about the bars and clubs makes it easier to know what to do and where to go.
Local Dive Bars
Dive pars are found throughout Jonker Street and beyond. Beer is one of the common drinks to order, though it depends on the bartender working. D’Arts Café offers beer and various items from the kitchen. They offer a pool table and free Wi-Fi as well. Geographer Café is found on the same street and doubles as a lounge with soft jazz and fancy cocktails. Walking down the main roads will make it easy to find plenty of bars.
Clubs are commonly found south of the Malacca River. This includes the Sunshine Bar, which is known for playing hip hope and house. Most people dress to impress within the club scene, so it’s important to dress to fit in. Some areas offer outdoor karaoke, which is an option if you want to participate in one of the most popular pastimes of Malaysia. It’s also common to find karaoke competitions. Street performances are also part of the club scene and are often used to bring people into the clubs where there may then be a cover charge because of the entertainment found within.
Alternative Options for the Nightlife
Melaka offers plenty of alternative options to the traditional bars and clubs. The Night Market, referred to as Pasar Malam, is a market selling food, clothing, and more and is open from evening until 10 p.m. Many also choose to go see a movie at the Cinema found within Mahkota Parade or at the Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall. Both are within walking distance of the historic precinct.
