Jackson – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Jackson What to Pack

While visiting Jackson you’ll find the weather is unpredictable in most months. Know what to bring so you aren’t caught unprepared while exploring the high terrain.

Luggage and Bags

No need to drag that backpack into Jackson even if you just came off a great backcountry trip in the Tetons. A small day pack will suffice to carry what you need in this small town. In the summer bring a lightweight bag for hiking, and in the winter bring a bag large enough to hold your winter clothing (you’ll need the extras!)

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear

Jackson winters typically mean snow and cold temperatures so plan for cold weather gear, including waterproof boots. Summer is generally warm but you can also get unexpected colder conditions so, along with your shorts, be sure to pack a jacket, hat and long pants. Layers are recommended in the fall or spring because it can be rainy, snowy, cold or mild; this way you can adjust depending on current weather conditions. You’ll definitely need comfortable walking shoes if you plan to explore the parks. Pack some extra socks too, your feet will thank you for it. You can go casual or casual dress at local restaurants.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies

Being at such a high altitude it is easy to get sunburned, even in the winter or on a cloudy day, so be sure to pack sunscreen. Tuck some toilet paper, Band-Aids and handi-wipes into your bag and, if you are partial to nosebleeds, bring along some nasal spray. Also, remember insect repellant.

Camping/Outdoor Gear

You can camp light and backpack into the park, or camp out of your car at many Yellowstone sites. Other items you should bring are sunglasses, binoculars, rain gear and a water bottle. Don’t forget your camera too!
