Hassles from People on the Street in Lisbon and other Warnings and Dangers

Warnings and Dangers in Lisbon: Hassles from People on the Street

The capital city of Portugal attracts tourists from different parts of the world throughout the year. However, every tourist should be aware of hassles from people on the streets of Lisbon.

Drug Peddlers

There are drug peddlers on almost every street and corner in the city of Lisbon. The drug peddlers will approach tourists under the guise of selling sunglasses. If you do not buy the sunglasses, they will proceed to offer you a wide variety of drugs. Since the police do not do anything to stop the harassment from these drug peddlers, the best thing to do would be to avoid them.

Aggressive Beggars

There are some aggressive beggars at train stations as well as in metros and trains. The beggars are persistent and will go as far as holding your hand when asking for money from you. The harassment can continue with the beggars following you into a restaurant, without the management stopping them. It is advisable not to engage the beggars or give them any money.

Parking Assistance

When driving in Lisbon, you will see several people trying to help you when you want to park your car. While there is no problem with this, some of them will take your money and then tell you that every place is suitable for parking. There are only a few who will indicate a nice place to park your car.

Lisbon at Night

Lisbon is an extraordinarily beautiful city at night, with illuminated monuments, charming streets and fantastic views. However, walking alone at night will attract pickpockets, prostitutes, drug peddlers and even robbers. You should avoid walking alone at night or walk in groups to be safe.

Intendente Area

You should keep away from this part of the city both during the day and at night. The dirty zone has all manner of despicable activities, ranging from drug dealing, prostitution to ethnic confrontation.
