Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver

Tourist Traps in Vancouver: Capilano Suspension Bridge

The Capilano Suspension Bridge is an elegant suspension bridge that brings people across the scenic Capilano River. While the bridge is a major attraction, some people report problems with issues that include costs and unexpected crowds.

More than eight-hundred thousand people cross this bridge each year. It soars over two-hundred feet above the water. Part of a complex of seven bridges that span the area, the bridge is a few reported problems you should keep in mind before you plan your trip.

Bridge Costs

Many people find the bridge to be on the costly side. Keep that in mind if you’re coming here with a large party. There is a gift shop that specializes in western art that can also be a little pricey.

It’s Very Crowded

The bridge is high but it’s not wide. It’s also very popular during the summer when it gets hot outside. Keep in mind if you don’t like the heat, this may not be the best time to visit. Instead, consider a trip during the fall or spring season. The crowds tend to thin out at this time and the views are just as impressive.

Potential Alternatives

If you love this area but are low on funds you’re in luck. An excellent alternative exists. Far less crowded is the Lynn Valley suspension bridge. Only about a twenty minute drive away from the Calipano bridge, this one is just as spectacular. Better, yet the bridge is actually free. While it’s not quite as long as the Capilano Suspension bridge, it is a gateway to a large park full of trails to explore.
