Tips on Brisbane Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Brisbane Warnings and Dangers

If you come to Brisbane in Queensland, you will experience the great Brisbane River interactive exhibitions with rich cultures, modern and contemporary art museums and beautiful Botanic Gardens. However, be on the lookout for the following.

Fortitude Valley at Night

The city center is extremely safe even at late night. However other parts of the city such as the Fortitude Valley have a poor reputation. You may encounter drunkards on late night trains but call ahead and ensure a cab is waiting if you’re traveling to the suburbs. Also, avoid taking photos of kids; you risk being labeled a pedophile and being arrested.

Wildlife

In spring, beware that magpies which are highly territorial and tend to protect their nesting by diving off invaders. Some visitors have died from road accidents escaping attacks, injured or amputated after magpies pecking. Another bird, Ibis of the south bank is famous for jumping on the table and stealing food even while you are still eating. Beware of snakes in the nearby National parks in summer; recently a Tiger Snake bit a hiker in Lamington. But snakes are harmless if you just stand still or walk away but don’t try killing it.

Also, tourists have drowned in unpatrolled waters; avoid swimming in the Brisbane River, as it hosts over 500 Bull Sharks and jellyfish in summer but if you are only walking in the mangroves take precautions of midge bites from midge larvae in mud and sandy substrates.

Summer Storms

Mainly during the summer months, there are afternoon storms and scorching days. Summer storms wreak havoc on the power lines and supplies. Beware of doggy weather, avoid sheltering under trees and keep away from water in case of flash floods.
