Tips on Lyon Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Lyon Warnings and Dangers

Despite being the third largest city in France, Lyon is a very picturesque place to visit full of charm and kind locals. However as with any city, it would be wise to utilize any tips on Lyon concerning warnings and dangers as you make your way around and visit.

Transportation Warnings and Dangers in Lyon

Lyon is a busy city with tourists, residents, and business people all trying to get to where they need to go. Keeping that in mind, if you are coming from Paris there is a 2-level high-speed train called the TGV Duplex that has a route to Lyon. It is an unpleasant experience if you have a seat on the top – there is a lot of shaking that may just make your head ache! The normal TGV will not cause you this inconvenience and may be more worth the price.

If you are already in the city, you will notice a lot of Lyon is very walkable. But do not be fooled by the one way streets – there may actually be two lanes! If you attempt to jaywalk in order to cross the street, look in both directions – the street may be a one way for cars however the extra lane is for buses and taxis that goes in the opposite direction. They usually travel fast too (around 60km/hour) and many pedestrians have had close calls when not paying attention.

If you decide to rent a car, use one with air-conditioning. The summer heat is very intense, and air-conditioning will definitely make for a more comfortable trip.

Enjoying Lyon and heeding to Warnings and Dangers

Because Lyon gets very hot in the summer, bring a hat or sunscreen. And as there are 2 rivers that flow through the city, these will help if you do a boat tour!

Just as the rivers flow, so will wine – this is a destination for Beaujolais! Avoid drinking too much wine, as it can be easy to do here with all of the fine cuisine. You won’t enjoy the many sites in Lyon as you should, particularly if you over-consume a cheap vin-du-table!

Also use common sense in general when protecting your valuables. Make sure to wear valuable documents, such as your money, passport and other papers, around your neck. This will make it more difficult for thieves to pick-pocket or steal a purse.
