Tips on Kolkata (Calcutta) Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Kolkata (Calcutta) Warnings and Dangers

Calcutta is one of the most important cities in East India. The port is the oldest acting one of its kind in the country of India. It is one of the biggest cities in India and brings in many visitors every year. While it is generally a pleasant place, there are a few things to be aware of if you travel there.

Beware of Pilfering Monkeys

There are monkeys all over India. Some are in areas that are more populated by humans than others. While they are generally harmless creatures, remember that they are still animals. If they are hungry, they may become aggressive in trying to take your food from you and even work together to do so. It is fun to feed the monkeys, but you should be on your toes while doing so.

Be Prepared for Power Outages

It is not uncommon for the power to go out during the scorching summer months in Calcutta. Be prepared for this with candles and other items if it does occur while you are there. One thing you should definitely have is a mosquito coil.

Avoid Monsoon Season

Summer is aggressively hot in Calcutta. Added to that is the fact that June through September is Monsoon season, a period when the region experiences extreme rainfall. Daily activity in the city is disrupted on a daily basis as a result of this. If you don’t like rain, avoid visiting during this time of year. If you do go during monsoon season, be sure that you are drinking clean and healthy water. Also, wear clothing that is water resistant and can protect you, especially when it comes to footwear.
